Week 2 Bevel Gear Challenge
1)Grid dependency test also known as mesh refinement test is done to check optimum MESHING conditions for analysing considering system we are working on and time and getting accurate results approximately. In this process mesh is reduced to that element size where we get no change in deformation of product.
2)Here in this challenge we have done exactly the same by running simulation with different mesh sizes.
Geometry imported

the one with 16 teeth is small gear
the one with 24 teeth is big gear
Contacts :-
type - frictional
behaviour - symmetric
Formulation - Augmented Lagrange ( parts will not move in different direction other than specified)
interface treatment - adjust to touch

revolute joints have been given to both gears with respect to ground
MESHING
face meshing has been given a element size - 1.75mm

Analysis setting as per

joint load - small gear has been given a 20 degree increament to 120 degree , whereas 100 Nmm moment has been given to big gear

case 1 mesh - 6mm
total deformation - 47.87mm

Equivalent elastic strain - 2.83e-5 mm/mm

equivalent stress - 4.65 MPa

case 2 mesh - 5mm
total deformation - 47.87mm

Equivalent elastic strain - 2.88e-5 mm/mm

equivalent stress - 4.8 MPa

case 3 mesh - 4mm
total deformation - 47.87mm

Equivalent elastic strain - 2.47e-5 mm/mm

equivalent stress - 4.0 MPa

conclusion - As we can observe that total deformation in each case is approximately same i.e. 47.87mm ,
so as accordance with the grid dependency test - 6mm would be the suitable mesh .
