Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole

considering common meshing

case1: max stress - 0.6MPa at center

max deformation - 2.7e-4 at the end

case 2: max stress - 0.58MPa at center

max deformation - 2.9e-4 at the end

From analysis point - case1 design should be selected as it provide much more rigidity and less loosepoints.

from manufacturing point - it depends , if we need to check weight then the second case should be selected.

if we need to check time then first case should be selected.

REPORT:

case1: length 300mm , height - 120mm , hole at center - 60mm dia , thickness - 30mm

material - structural steel

boundary conditions: 1) fixed at one end 2) force - 500N applied at other end

meshing : element size - 6mm

solution:

max stress - 0.6MPa at center

max deformation - 2.7e-4 at the end

case2: length 300mm , height - 120mm , hole at center - 60mm dia , 2 holes of 30mm , 90mm apart adjacent to center hole, thickness - 30mm

material - structural steel

boundary conditions: 1) fixed at one end 2) force - 500N applied at other end

meshing : element size - 6mm

solution:

max stress - 0.58MPa at center

max deformation - 2.9e-4 at the end
