Week- 5 - Solid meshing

AIM: To mesh the casting component with tetra elements with proper mesh flow.

Steps:

-Import geometry.

-Use topo to join surfaces.

- Run geometry check through checks manager and fix errors if they are present.

-Define mesh paramters.

-apply quality criteria as given.

-Display only one component, hide all other components and start tetra 2d mesh by going to mesh module,  mesh generation, best mesh.

In best mesh option list, change mesh type to ortho mesh.

Select the component visible and click M.M.B.

-Use improve command to improve the maximum and minimum length quality fails.

-After improving quality of mesh, go to volume mesh module.

-First define volume property.

-Select all the elements and check manual mode and click M.M.B.

-Now to check if the volume property is assigned or not, click on “list” which is just beside “define”

As you can see a volume property is defined but its not defined. As you can see the status is unmeshed.

-now double click on the property shown in the volume dialouge box.

Select mesh type as “tetra rapid” or “tetra FEM” and click ok.

-the type gets changed to tetra rapid.

-right click on this property and click remesh. The volumes will be created.

-now do the same for other components.

-again improve the quality of mesh.

-after improving

-Again define a volume property and right click on it.

-remesh with Tetra rapid or tetra FEM.

-repeat this process for remaining componets.

Final result:

Outcomes:

  1. Ortho trias are more preferable then normal trias because it forms a proper mesh flow with a proper pattern.
  2. Curved surfaces are very well captured with ortho tria elements.

Conclusion:

  1. 2D tria elements are converted into tetra volume elements.
  2. Tetra volume elements are created when the geometry does not have a definite shape and uniformity.
  3. Tetra volume elements are more widely used in industries because hexa elements are hard to create and time consuming process.
