Objective
For the given Rear view mirror component, check for the geometrical errors and mesh the Surfaces with the given 2D element Quality criteria’s given below.

Use tetra elements to mesh the Volumes defined in the model and check for the below quality after Volume meshing.

Surface Quality after Volume mesh should be good. (i.e., There should not and kinks and dips on the surface of the component.)
(Refer “Model Requirements” in “Grading Policy” to know what to be done in the model)
Write a detailed report on your approach for this model. (Refer “Report Requirements” in “Grading Policy” to know what to be added in the report)
Note:
- For 2D Elements, only check for Min length and Max length errors.
- For 3D Elements, only check Tet Collapse errors.

Procedure
Geometry cleanup
All the single cons are stitched to double cons using Topo
Orient is used to orient all surfaces in one direction
Using checks à geometry à execute, shows geometry errors that can be fixed.
After performing these checks the model looks as shown below

Meshing
Using Mesh à length à applying target length as 1mm
Assigning mesh parameters, target length is 1mm, min length is 0.5mm,
Mesh is solid structural mesh and the elements are tria

Quality Criteria
The above quality criteria are specified below

Best mesh was used to generate the mesh
The curved surfaces were given ortho tria elements and the flat surfaces were given normal tria elements

Tetra Volume Mesh
Volume mesh à Define à visible
This check whether the volume is defined or not
It also creates a volume with separate PID for the model
Then use Tet Rapid and select the model to create tetra elements
Use the following options while doing so
Since model is not that big, there is no reason to change the growth rate.
Deselect the create pyramid option

The volume mesh using tetra elements are shown below

Conclusion
We learned the process for solid meshing
We performed volume mesh on the components and checked for tet collapse.
