Week- 5 - Solid meshing
OBJECTIVES :
- Checking model for Geomerical Errors .
- Performing the GEometrical Clean up on the model .
- Meshing the Model with 2D shell Tria elements with Target Element Length of 1 mm .
- Checking for the minimum and maximum failure of the element .
- Creating the tetra mesh / Volume mesh using the 2D shell element mesh created .
- Checking the Volume mesh for the Tet collaps Quality .
CAD model :

Procedure :
- Rear view mirror model is imported and we can see single cons here , which we needs to taken care .
- For fixing this Single cons Topology opertaion is performed on the whole model .
Before Topology : After Topology :

- Now Geometrical check is done and we got 0 Geometrical errors .

- For creating the good volume mesh in the model we have to mesh the model with Ortho Tria and the Simple Tria elements for better surface capturing .
- Curved surfaces are meshed with the Ortho Tria elements and plane surfaces are meshe dwith the Simple Tria elements .
- Initially i have meshed Corner curved suirfaces with the Ortho Tria elements .

- And then Other Curved surfaces are also meshed with the Ortho Tria elements .
- Other all the plane surfaces are meshed with the Simple Tria elements .

- The secondary Casing surface of the Ball joint from mirror side is meshed with the Ortho Tria elements as this are curved surfaces .

- Prmary casing of the ball joint is also meshed with the Ortho Tria elements .

- But here at corner the Elements would have failed for the minimum length and hence i have created mid line at corner fillet as shouwn in below image ,

- Then Ball of the ball joint is meshed with Ortho Tria elements as ,

- Meshing of the other mirror arm's curved surafecs are meshed with the same Ortho tria elements .
- And plane surfaces are meshed with the Simple Tria elements .

- Now for creating the Volume mesh in the model we have to define the closed Volumes which ANSA have already recognised 4 closed Volumes automatically.
- Using the Tetra FEM Algorithum i have created the 3D tetra elements .
Results :
- Model with the 2D meshed ELements can be seen below with zero 2D shell elements failled for minimum Length and Maximum Length as ,

- Volume mesh created in the model can be seen below with zero tetra elements fails for the Tet collaps as ,

- Here we can see that the there isn't any Mesh bumps or kins and dips on the surfaces of the Volume meshed model .

Conclusion :
- Initially model is meshed with the 2D shell Elements with the Target Elements of 1 mm.
- Them Mesh Quality is checked for the minimum and maximum length failure .
- Them this 2D shell elemnets are used for the Volume meshing using the Tetra FEM Volume mesh.
- Volume Mesh is checked for the Tet Collaps .
- Model has cleared all the Quality criteria for 2D shell and 3D tetra elements as well .
