Week 5:- Rest Unit & Clamp Unit Design Challenge
AIM
The goal is to provide two distinct rest units and three distinct power clamp units for the specified automobile panel, each with a different riser, blade, and clamp arm.
INTRODUCTION
A clamp unit is a tool used to hold a part securely in the assembly. It keeps the assembly from moving around in the fixture and guarantees that the part operates correctly and without distortion. It is necessary to position the clamp such that it does not interpret the operation.
The clamp strategy is based on the Customer's data. Information about the locations of pins, rest units, clamp units, dumps, etc. is provided by the clamp plan. It provides coordinates that show the precise location of the clamping places. In certain situations, the clamp position may be so close to the pin position that it could harm the tool.

3-2-1 Principle
Fixing the work piece with a pin unit or a clamp unit is our ultimate goal in order to prevent it from moving while the operation is being done on it. We apply the 3-2-1 principle as a result.
The Six degree of freedom that each component has are as follows,
- Translational motion along X-axis
- Rotational motion along X-axis
- Translational motion along Y-axis
- Rotational motion along Y-axis
- Translational motion along Z-axis
- Rotational motion along Z-axis
Simply put, degrees of freedom are the directions in which each component can move. If we also take into account rotation in an anticlockwise direction and translation along the negative, these six degrees become twelve. This implies that when a component is free, it can move in any direction. However, for obvious reasons, such free - to - move bodies cannot be subjected to procedures like welding, stamping, or anything else. Therefore, in order for a worker to work on the body, it must be restricted in all of its major directions. The 3-2-1 method is used to create this motion constraints.
DESIGN METHODOLOGY
- Providing a project title and appropriately organizing the specification tree initiates the design process.
The clamp arm and standard pneumatic cylinders, which are purchased components, are copied into the project after being downloaded from the Tunkers websites.

Because of the way the clamp and rest mylars are positioned and built, the automobile panel's mobility is limited. For the clamp to open and close, the clamp mylars are fastened to it.

5mm shims are made to allow the pin to be adjusted in a variety of ways.

All of the aforementioned components can be put on the risers because of their design. The risers are fixed to the fixture's base.

- Dowel and threaded holes are supplied for the components that need to be put together.

REST UNIT
The purpose of the rest unit is to support an automobile panel with a mylar or NC block. There is no higher clamp or force applied to the rest component, it is simply resting. Because it merely serves rest the car panel and has fewer pieces to design, it is the easiest unit to create. The rest unit's simplicity allows it to be used with other units to lower the project's overall cost.

CONCLUSION
Therefore, in accordance with the specifications, the clamp unit and the rest unit are made for the specified car panel.
