Week 5:- Rest Unit & Clamp Unit Design Challenge

CLAMP UNIT:

  • A Clamp Unit is used to lock the panel position in transitional direction.
  • It supports the panel with fixed Mylar and lock its movement with mobile Mylar, when panels come onto the tool then clamp is in open condition once panel sits down then clamp closes and joining process is done.
  • Once the joining process gets completed, then the cylinder arm opens.

NOTE:

  • Each of the three clamp units are having identical clamping cylinder as well as clamping arm.
  • All headed screws used for assembling various parts of clamping unit are of hexagonal socket head type.
  • All headed screws used for assembling each clamp unit to base are of hexagonal head type.
  • All headed screws are used with Normal series washers of respective size.

CLAMP UNIT I :

  • Single surface contact type of movable(clamp) and fixed(rest) mylars are used. These are screwed to Clamp arm and riser using M8 screws. (shown in fig 1.1 and 1.2).
  • For fitting blade onto the clamping cylinder body Headed as well as Non-headed hexagonal socket head screws are used due to design constraint around lower rows of screws. (shown in fig. 1.3).
  • A T-shaped riser having a slot for blade accomodation is fitted with help of M8 screws.

CLAMP UNIT II:

  • This clamp unit uses an additional T-block for mounting of Clamp mylar indirectly onto the clamp arm.
  • Two surface contact type of movable(clamp) and fixed(rest) mylars are used. These are screwed to a T shaped block and riser using M6 screws. (shown in fig 2.1 and 2.2)
  • For fitting blade and L shaped riser M8 screws of appropriate length are used.

CLAMP UNIT III:

  • Same Mylars and screw size are used as in Clamp unit I (shown in fig 1.1 and 1.2).
  • The fixed(rest) mylar is mounted on an L-block using M8 screws.
  • L-block is mounted onto the blade using M8 screws.
  • For mounting Blade onto the cylinder body and T shaped Riser (with unsymmetric legs) onto blade M10 screws are used.
