Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

Objective:

The main objective of this challenge is to clean the unwanted surfaces of the given geometry models and to create the surface wrap for the final merged model.

Geometry Clean up:

The given geometry were cleaned by removing the unwanted and overlapping surfaces for all 3 given models as shown below:

Model 1: Engine

The given engine model was examined for errors and unwanted surfaces. The unwanted surfaces were removed by using the NOT option on required PIDs and isolating the unwanted surfaces. The cleaned Engine model is shown below:

The cleaned engine model is saved successfully as a separate file.

Model 2: Transmission

The given transmission model is examined for errors and removed from the extra and unwanted faces. The cleaned transmission is shown below:

After the clean-up, the transmission model is saved as a separate file.

Model 3: Gear Box

Finally, the 3rd model (gear box) is checked for unwanted faces and removed by keeping the required PIDs.The cleaned gear box model is shown below:

Merging all models:

The cleaned engine model was opened and then the open holes were filled to get the proper wrapping for the surface without any small gap element. To merge all other parts, the transmission model was opened with the merge option in the same workspace tab, subsequently, the gear box was opened using the merge option as to merge it with the transmission model.

The all 3 models were merged as shown below:

The holes were filled which should not rebuild the surface over the wrap while creating the surface wrap.

The deleted unwanted surfaces were removed using the Compress option.

Surface Wrap:

The surface wrap was made with the target length of 3mm as per the challenge requirement.

The surface wrap created is shown below:

The total number of cells was found as 1.4 million.

The model was checked for the surface wrap created as taught in the course and shown below:

Conclusion:

In this particular task, I've learned to create the surface wrap and to merge the different models.
