Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly
OBJECTIVE:
To check for the geometrical errors and clear the unwanted features rised in the model followed by surface wrap for the whole model merging Engine,Transmission, Gearbox as an assembled single combined model.
PROCEDURE:
- Clearing the unwanted feature from the models are done to avoid errors during the surface wraping as the wrap exceeds to unwanted feature and results in distorted form of error.
- Each model is diaognised for extra features and filled with new surfaces at hole areas as the surface wrap tends to wrap even inside the hole.
- After filling the holes and clearing the unwanted features, each of the model is merged respectively in the following order as ENGINE,TRANSMISSION BOX, GEARBOX.
- Surface wrap of mesh elements 3mm is wraped around the assembly of engine, transmission box and gearbox
- Cross sectional area of the model is examined as the surafce wrap is now as single volume , when cross examined it appears to be like a mould
SCREENSHOTS
Given engine model for surface wraping
- Deleting unwanted rings and spheres

- separating the model as PID wise to detect the unwanted features easily.

- closing the holes in engine

TRANSMISSION BOX
- Deleting unwanted features in transmission box

- filling holes in transmission box

- extending the face to make a water tight model

- Transmisson box with filled holes and clearing unwanted features

GEARBOX

- Filling holes in gear box

- Engine before mering

- merged model of ENGINE,TRANSMISSION BOX,GEARBOX

- Compressing the PIDs

- specifying mesh lengths and PIDs assigned for the mesh

- Running the ANSA file for surface wrap to get a result of whole model surface wraped

- Final surface wraped model

- Cross sectional area of the model

CONCLUSION:
The assembled model is finally surface wraped of 2d mesh of length mm.
