Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

Aim: Surface wrap on automotive assembly.

Procedure:

As the first step, delete all the unwanted elements that do not contribute to the shape of surface of the model.

Delete all the surfaces created to form the fillets or other fetaures of the model. The whole idea of the surface wrap is to retain the outer surface of the model where the fluid flows. As the process is lengthy, we can hide the necessary surfaces of the model by using the Not option PID wise. All the unwanted parts will be visible and can be deleted altogether.

Once all the unwanted surfaces are deleted, select and delete all the overlapped surfaces. Create new surfaces where it is needed. Since we are not focusing on Single or triple cons, we will be focusing on to retain the outer surface feature of the model.

Once the engine model is complete, we will open the gear box model and repeat the same procedure.

Check for overlapped surfaces and delete it.

Repeat the steps with transmission model also.

After all the 3 models are preprocessed, the thinner surfaces or parts should be deleted, say for example, the belts in the engine can be deleted. After that, close all the openings in the model by creating new surfaces using COONs or FITTED or Fill Hole option.

Once all the models are complete, the are assembled into the same model by selecting 'Merge' option under files section. Assemble all the models.

After assembling the model, select wrap under elements section and Create new and select all the PIDs that needs to be wrapped.

Choose constant wrap, and the surface will be warpped and meshed.

Learning outcome: Learnt why surface wrap is used and how to wrap complex models.

Result: The model was wrapped successfully.

Conclusion: The conditions where the model is too large, surface wrap is the best solution.

The main point to be considered is that the model has no openings.
