Challenge

Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

AIM:

For the given models, check for the geometrical errors and delete surfaces which are unwanted for Surface wrap. After clearing geometry, Merge all 3 models and perform surface wrap.

Write a detailed report on steps followed to finish this challenge.

OBJECTIVE:

Target length for Wrap = 3 mm

Tools used are Classic mesh> Elements> Wrap> Constant length.

PROCEDURE:

Following steps are followed from geometry clean up for Engine, Transmission and Gear box components, assembled all the three components to execute Surface wrap.

Step 1: Geometry clean-up / saving for the geometry error for Engine, Transmission and Gear box components.

i) Geometry cleanup for Engine component by deleting the donut shape tubes and unnecessary surfaces.

Please refer the below photo for the Engine component geometry error given initialy.

Delete the unnecessary surfaces by using universal delete tool by hidden the main engine parts.

Please refer the below photo for the geometry soved for engine component.

ii) Geometry cleanup for Transmission component by deleting unnecessary surfaces.

Please refer the below photo for the Transmission component with geometry error given initialy.

Delete the unnecessary surfaces by using universal delete tool.

Please refer the below photo for the geometry soved for Transmission component.

iii) Geometry cleanup for Gear Box component by deleting unnecessary surfaces.

Please refer the below photo for the Gear Box component with geometry error given initialy.

Delete the unnecessary surfaces by using universal delete tool.

Please refer the below photo for the geometry soved for Gear Box component.

Step 2: Assembly of all the three components Engine, Transmission and Gear Box.

Open the new ANSA window and merge all the three components.

Use File>Merge path.

Refer the below photo for the steps invoved in merging the component.

Initialy open the geometry solved engine component in ANSA, go for merge option in files, then after clickon Transmission component file and open, at last click on Gear Box and open to merge all the components.

After open the each components click on ok for all the merge parameters.

Please refer the below photo for the assembled for all the three component.

After assembly delete the unnesessary PIDs by using Compress tool.

Step 3: Surface wrap for assembled part.

After assemby we go for surface wrap and tools used are Classic mesh> Elements> Wrap> Constant length.

Please refer the below photo for the screen open for the constant length.

Click on the Status and following screen (refer the snap shot of it which is below) will popup

Click on parameters and name it as Wrap, and give the mesh length as 3 mm click on ok. Please refer the below screen shot of it.

Go for mesh type, give shell type as trias and wrap mode as Nodes out of structure and click on OK.

Click on contenets and move all the items to be surface wrap. Please refer the below snap shot of it.

Click on run to obtain the surface wrap of the assembled components.

RESULT AND CONCLUSION:

After running from the previous step we obtain the Surface wrap meshed components Please refer the below photo of it. We obtain 704230 trias elements.

LEARNING OUTCOME:

I have learn new tool of surface wrap meshing from geometry clean up to constant length wrap meshing.
