Week 5 Challenge

AIM:

Calculate the design wind loads for the bridges to be designed at Mumbai.

GIVEN DATA:

  • The height of the bridge above ground level is 9 m.
  • It is located in open terrain with well scattered obstructions of height less than 10m.
  • The pier size is 1.5 x 1.5 m.

PROCEDURE:

1.To create a node first

2.Use translation repute method y=9

3.Add Beam node 1 to node 2

4.It is the fixed support

5.To select the beam 3 steps and 4m distance Z direction

6.To select the four beams and then 2 steps and 10m distance in X direction

7.To add beams in all X, Z directions

8.Select the node 0.5m distance in X direction

9.Select node 0.5m distance in Z direction

10.Create plate

11.Plate thickness is 0.5m

12.Select the plate 23 steps in Z direction

13.Select all plates and 39 steps in X direction 0.5m distance

14.To form the groups pier, girder, cross girder

15.pier =1.5m*1.5m, Girder =0.60m*1m, Cross girder = Taper (materials all of concrete)

CALCULATIONS:

Mumbai basic wind speed is Vb = 44m/s

Wind speed Vz = Vb*K1*K2*K3*K4

= 44*1.07*1*1*1.3

= 61.204 m/s

Wind pressure Pz = 0.6*Vz2

= 2247.54 m/s

= 2.247 Kn/m2

16.Go to the load cases create the four-wind loads = +z, -z, +x, -x

  1. a.+Z = 1.5m*2.247, =

b.+Z = 0.6m*2.247, = 1.3482 (Girder)

c. -Z = -1.5m*2.247, = -3.3705 (pier )

d. -Z = -0.6m*2.247, = -1.3482 (Girder )

e.+X = 1.5m*2.247, = 3.3705 (pier)

f. +X = 0.6m*2.247, = 1.3482 (Girder)

g. -X = -1.5m*2.247, = -3.3705 (pier )

h. -X = -0.6m*2.247, = -1.3482 (Girder )

RESULTS:

18.Go to run analysis and post processing mode

19.Wind load +Z deflection

20.Displacement

21.Shear y

22.Bending moment MY

23.Plate results MY Local
