Week 4- Rolling operation

Aim of the project:

To perform the static structural analysis on the rolling process of copper alloy workpiece.

Find out the results for Von-mises stress, Plastic strain, Total deformation in width of workpiece and longitudinal diplacement of workpiece.

Set Up

  1. In the Ansys workbench we chose static structural analysis and in engineering data we kept the material structural steel it is and along with that we added Copper alloy non linear.
  2. After Importing the roller and workpiece assembly model in the Geometry, We opened it in spaceclaim and edited the workpiece to shrink its width by 8mm in each side and also increased the length by 60mm.
  3. Then we opened the model in mechanical module, renamed the models and assigned workpiece material as copper alloy NL.
  4. We selected 2 frictional contacts between roller and workpiece as shown below.
  5. Now we added 2 revolute joints as shown in below image.
  6. In the mesh we added body sizing for workpiece with the element size of 2mm.
  7. In the Analysis settings we have added workpiece displacement values in 14 different steps so that made sure that workpiece moves 90mm in Y direction.
  8. Later we added 2 rotational joint loads as shown below.
  9. Finally we solved it for required solutions and results are shown below.
  10. Equivalent stress for the whole setup Maximum : 3186. MPa
  11. Equivalent Plastic strain for the workpiece Maximum 1.7812 mm/mm
  12. Directional Deformation in the Z axis for the workpiece = 6.1447 mm each side.
  13. And below image proves that workpiece is displaced by 90mm.
  14. All the videos of results attached.
