Challenge

Week 4- Rolling operation

Aim: To calculate stress, strain and deformation of a copper workpiece under rolling

Setup for analysis: The material is imported and made some changes as mentioned in spaceclaim

Contacts are created between the rollers and workiece

Mesh: The size of the mesh at the contacts is taken as 1.5mm and default at the rest of the area

Boundary conditions: The displacement is given to the workpiece in the negative Y direction and rotation to the rollers

Solution:

Directional deformation

Plastic strain

Equivalent stress

Result:

Material Deformation Y(mm) Plastic strain(mm/mm) Equivalent stress (MPa)
Copper NL alloy

90(max)

88.4(min)

2.8(max)

0.6(min)

4941(max)

0.0059(min)

Conclusion:

As mentioned the workpiece was displaced 90mm
