Week 4- Meshing of Backdoor Challenge
Week 4
Meshing of Backdoor Challenge
Aim: To mesh the backdoor geometry of a car that is provided with the quality parameters given below.
Quality Criteria Value
Aspect Ratio 5
Skewness 45
Warping 15
Taper 0.5
Min. Length 3
Max. Length 7
Min angle Quad 45
Max angle Quad 135
Min angle Tria 30
Max angle Tria 110
Tria % 15
Procedure:
- Imported the back door geometry into hypermesh.
- Checked for missing surfaces, filled missing surfaces in the geometry

- The geometry was already divided into 3 parts.
- Extracted midsurface for 3 parts indivdually, assigned under the parent geometry.
- Used the offset option for missing surfaces in the midsurface.
- Did the autoclean up and toogled some lines for qulaity of mesh.

- Meshed the half midsurface and of each part with the given quality criteria.
- Used the Split Surf Line to draw lines and toggle edge options to supress lines for better mesh quality.
- Used the place node, swap edge, optimize element , smooth , drag tria element , split quad element , and combine tria to improve mesh quality.
- Used the Reflect option to mesh the other half of the parts.
- Some surfaces were not symmetrical, meshed it individually and used the equivalence option and to stitch newly meshed elements.

Conclusion: Extracted the midsurface and meshed it with the given quality criteria.
Learning outcomes:- Replace nodes option to stitch elements.
- Reflect option.
