Week 4- Challenge
Week 4: Midsurface and 1D Elements (Creation and Purpose)
Agenda of Week 4:
1. To understand the concept and application of shell & 1D elements using Hypermesh
2. Difference between the bar, rod, and beam elements
3. By creating elements, connecting the components.
Content in Week 4 using Hyper-Mesh:
1. Converting 3D element to 2D [Midsurface]
2. Creating Properties & Materials to 2 different components.
3. Creating RBE2, RBE3, springs, bars & beams, rods and applying masses to those elements.
4. To define cross-sections of the beam, bar and rod Hyperbeam environment used.
5. Last, of the week-4 visualization, commands vectors and co-ordinates.
Task:
1. To create the beams, bars, and rods in the given model.
Introduction:
Midsurface:
A tool in geometry to convert the 3D models into 2D [Shell elements]surfaces. Purpose of converting the 3D model to 2D is to reduce the creation of several nodes, which leads to solving the problem error-free and less time consumption.
geometry ==> midsurface . select the surface [Note: The surface should have an equal thickness throughout the model].
Define the property, material and component in the given model.
Meshing:
After converting the model into 2D, mesh the model.
rigid (RBE2)& RBE3 elements:
To create RBE2, these elements are hard to deform. These type of elements will distribute the load equally with irrespective of the position and nodes. Every element has 6 degrees of freedom. In RBE3, load distribution will vary from the corresponding load. masses also added to the provided nodes
Creation of RBE2 & RBE3 elements:
1D ==> rigids ==> multiple nodes ==> select inside circle [shift + right click]. ==>Choose the nodes around the circle==> click create.
same procedure for RBE3.
Hyperbeam:
To create bars, beams, and rods. one needs to define the cross-section and property for the rods, beams, & bars.
hyperbeam==>
After defining the cross-section. rods ==> update ==>property ==> element type (CROD)
bars ==> select node A & B ==> N1,N2, &N3. ==> property (Beam) & element type CBEAM/CBAR. (same for update)
Finished Model:
CONCLUSION:
For the above model, meshing has been done. The rod, bar, and beam element has been created. From week 4, got some brief idea about mid surface, beams, rods, springs, bars (1D elements), RBE2 (rigid) and RBE3. The given challenge completed successfully.
