Week 4- Challenge

AIM:To generate the mesh of the model and to create the 1D elements as mentioned with the predetermined dimmensional parameters, to provide mass elements and springs.

PROCEDURE:

The entire process an be divided into 4 sub categeories, the first step to import the model, the second step to mid surface the model and to mesh, the third step is to add the properties to the model and to create 1D elements, the final step being creation of mass elements and spring elements.

a.TO IMPORT THE MODEL:

First thing to do is to import the model by selecting the import geometry option and selecting the given file to import the model, once u import the model the model will be in wired frame, we need to convert it to shadowed with edges by selecting the appropriate options.

b.MID SURFACING AND GENERATION OF MESH:

Once the model is imported the next thing is to create the mid surface, for that u need to select the respective options in order [ path way:Geometry>surface>midsurface>auto extration]. After selecting the required surfaces, we need to create the surfaces and change their names in component folder. Next delete all the solids from the model by selcting the delete option, if required organise the surface to the mid surface.

Now the model is ready for mesh, to ensure good mesh provide washer support for holes of 5 mm. Select the automesh option from 2D and select both surfaces[pathway:2D>automesh]. once u select the mesh ur model will be meshed with appropriate element size.

c.ADDITION OF PROPERTIES TO MODEL AND CREATION OF 1D ELEMENTS:

Add the properties in the left component box by  pre adding the material. Once we create the material we need to add propetirs to the model and relate it with the created material and the surfaces have to be related to properties.

Select 1D option and select Hyperbeam option to give the cross sectional dimmensions and  shape of elements. The crosssetional dimmensions have to be enetred in the appropriate area, and one by one all the 3 elements have to created and should be added to the model.

Now the model is ready to create 1D elements, go to 1D elements and select the rigid option to create rbe2 element link, give all necessary options and the degrees of freedom. Firstly we are creating the bar,so following steps have to followed.

1.Select the rigid option and select the appropriate area to create the RBE2 element link ,once the links are created in the both the surfaces, go for creating the bar element.[Mentioned DOF have to given while genrating RBE2 link]

2.Now go to 1D, select bar option, then assign nodes for the element and create the bar.

To create the beam:

1.Again go to 1D,select RBE3 option and create the RBE 3 element link at the required area in both the surfaces with given DOF .

2.Select 1D, go to bar, select beam element and create the beam element by assigning nodes.

To create the rod:

1.Select the 1D option and again create RBE2 links as done above with given DOF.

2.Select the 1D option, select rod and assign the nodes for the rod and create the rod.

Now create some properties in the name of the 3 elements in the left box in the screen in under properties. For the properties, we need to give the crossetional details which we have created earlier. Relate the cs details with the element properties. Now select the 1D elements and update the properties for the created 1D elements. This will create the 1D elements.

d.CREATION OF MASS ELEMENTS AND SPRING ELEMENTS:

Select the 1D element, select the rigid option and create the RBE2 link on one of the surface. Now again go for 1D select the mass option, assign the node and enter the magnitude of mass element. once all the details are mentioned create the mass element.

To create spring element, select the 1d and select the spring option and assign the nodes for it.Create the elements wherever mentioned.
