Define tooling direction

The Tooling Direction is basically the direction that the mold pulls apart. The mold is built in two separate pieces, basically. You have a Cavity side and you have the Core side. The Core pulls apart from the Cavity and that's the Dyeline or the Tooling Direction.

Parting Line

A 'parting line' is the line of separation on the plastic part where the two halves of the plastic injection mold meet. The line actually indicates the parting 'plane' that passes through the part.

The parting line is the junction of the movable mould(B plate) and the fixed mould(A plate). It is usually the largest shape of the plastic part. And it is designed for the removal of the plastic part and the condensate.

Types of PL

  1. flat parting line (eg a)
  2. Inclined parting Line (eg b)
  3. Step parting Line (eg c)
  4. Curved parting line (eg d)

Rules of PL design

Create B surface of the given lens in surface modeling (not in part), with a 4 mm thickness

First made a Class A Surface offset of 4mm for B Surface creation.

created B surface offset from the class A surface

Created C Surface with a sweep for making a closed surface.

Then made a solid

Then Made a draft analysis with 10degree.

Then Made a parting line.
