Challenge

Week - 4

Aim:

To Implement the control logic of a “washing machine” using Stateflow & make a Simulink chart for the “Gear shift” logic in MATLAB Simulink.

Objective:

  1. Implement control logic of a “washing machine” using Stateflow as per the given sequence:
  • If the power supply is available, the system gets activated
  • If the Water supply is not available, stop the process & indicate through LED
  • Soaking time should be 200s followed by Washing time of 100s.
  • Then rinsing happens for the next 20s & dryer runs for 50s

After all the processes have been completed turn on the finished LED

     2. Make a Simulink chart for the “Gear shift” logic as per the below conditions:

        Speed Range(kmph)        Gear

              0 to 15                         1

             16 to 25                        2

             26 to 40                        3

             41 to 60                        4

             Above 61                       5

Give speed input while the simulation is running & display the gear number.

 Case1:

Working of Washing machine:

A washing machine is a machine used to wash various types of clothes without applying any physical effort. With a washing machine, you don't have to rub the clothes with your hand or squeeze them to remove the water from them. The washing machine is also called a clothes washer or simply a washer. The washing machine enables you to wash your clothes automatically without having to supervise its operation. All you have to do is put the clothes in the machine and select the wash mode. The washing machine automatically takes in the amount of water and detergent required and it also automatically sets the timer for washing, rinsing, and drying as per the selected mode and the number of clothes.

SOAKING:

It is used to dip clothes in detergent water to remove dirt from the clothes. In this function, the customer needs to select soak from a panel Soak- This function is available with a wash timer, in 42 min of washing 27 min is soak and 15min machine will wash the clothes

WASHING:

During the wash cycle a large plastic agitator (green) turns around moving your clothes through the water When the wash is finished, the pump drains the water from the outer drum

RINSING:

The dirty, soapy water is drained then the washing machine is refilled and your clothes are rewashed in clean water. Spin All the water is drained completely, then your clothes are spun very fast and excess water is removed thanks to centrifugal force.

DRYER:

They work by pushing warm dry air through your wet washing to extract moisture, then cooling the now humid air in a heat exchanger to condense the moisture, which is collected in a tank or pumped down the drain. The (now dry) air is reheated and the cycle repeats.

STATE FLOW:

A systematic solution to a problem is possible with a sequential, unambiguous and realizable finite process step set. This set is called "algorithm" and it is one of the most important parts of the programming languages. In this study, it is represented how to learn algorithms by using Simulink Stateflow. In flow diagram-based algorithm learning

CONTROL LOGIC OF WASHING MACHINE

Step-by-step Process of Working:

Step 1 Switched OFF

Step 2 Power ON & WATER LEVEL Reaching the point level.

Step 3 Soaking completes & Washing starts.

Step 4 After Washing Rinsing starts.

Step 5 After Rinsing allow all water to drain from the machine. so water converts into RED to stop the water into the machine.

Step 6  Drying process completes & stop indicator lamp blink.

After Washing END the Alarm sounds & blink on the Lamp.

Each time of the operation can be adjusted by the Operator in the Display command. it will be adjusted in the Stateflow chart.

 Case2:

Vehicle transmissions require devices to match the ratio, and thus the power available, to the prevailing driving conditions. “Power matching” is one of the four main functions of a vehicle transmission. In manual gearboxes, changing gear is controlled and carried out by the driver. Depending on the amount of automation, in all other gearboxes electronics and actuator systems take over this function partially or completely. Certain transmission functions, such as Neutral, Reverse, and Park are however still controlled by the driver using a shifting device.

To effect a gear change, selecting first gear, for example, the driver depresses the clutch, disengaging the input shaft. Using the shift lever, the driver selects the first gear, and the linkage moves the shift fork to connect the 1st-2nd locking collar with 1" gear, locking it to the output shaft. Now, when the clutch is released engaging the input shaft, the output shaft turns because the gear is locked to the output shaft by the locking collar.

As the driver speeds up, selecting 2nd gear simply involved repeating the process, but moving the shift lever to and 2 gear. The shift shaft moves the shift fork to disengage gear and engage 2 gears. Releasing the clutch engages the input shaft again, this time routing power through 2nd gear. Changing to 3rd gear involves using a second shift linkage, shift fork, and locking collar, this one between 3rd and 4th gears. Because the countershaft and output shaft turn at different speeds, moving from 1 to 2nd gear, trying to engage a higher gear, while the vehicle is moving slower, would be like trying to turn the shaft at two different speeds, which is impossible: Synchronizer rings are like tiny clutches, using friction to bring the locking collar and the gear to the same speed at which point they easily mesh and power can be reapplied.

chart:

Simulink chart for the “Gear shift” logic as per the below conditions:

        Speed Range(km/hr)        Gear

              0 to 15                         1

             16 to 25                        2

             26 to 40                        3

             41 to 60                        4

             Above 61                       5

As per this condition, we designed the chart.

Vehicle at Idle:

Engine On & Vehicle at 12 Km/hour - 1st Gear

Vehicle at 22 Km/hour - 2nd Gear

Vehicle at 33 Km/hour - 3rd Gear

Vehicle at 55 Km/hour - 4th Gear

Vehicle at 100 Km/hour - 5th Gear

As per the Speed the Gear transmission is controlled Using the simulink.

Conclusion:

Thus the control logic of a washing machine using Stateflow is processed as per the given sequence and LED lights are turned to the green colour and the system is completed. A Simulink model is created for the gear shift logic in the chart.
