Solution 1: The overall working of the washing machine has been divided into sequence of seven logic states namely:

  1. Power (P) [Input data]
  2. Water (W) [Input data]
  3. Soaking (S) [t=200sec,output data]
  4. Washing (Wa) [t=100sec,output data]
  5. Rinsing (R) [t=20sec,output data]
  6. Drying (D) [t=50sec,output data]
  7. Finishing (F) [output data]

There are three lamps namely-POWER, NO WATER & FINISHED which indicate the presence of power supply, absence of water supply and end of the complete process.The colour indications of the three lamps is as listed below.

  1. POWER:- (ON-Yellow, OFF-Brown)
  2. NO WATER:- (Available-Colourless, Not available-Coloured)
  3. FINISHED:- (Process complete-Red, Else-Colourless)

The washing process gets initiated only when both power and water switches are ON, if not the indicated by the corresponding lamps. The complete process from Soaking to Drying takes te simulation time of 370secs as required inn the question. Due to this, the process is considered complete only of the simulation time is 370 secs or a multiple of it.

The Simulink file representing the related model has been attached with the name-"Washing_automatic".

Solution 2: The Simulink model file represnting the "gear shift" has been attached with the name "gear_shift".

In this case the stateflow chart consists of 5 different states corresponding to the five gears in an increasing speed sequence.

The range of speed limits for th five gears has been shown in the table below:-

Speed(Km/hr) v/s Gear
0<speed<=15 01
15<speed<=25 02
25<speed<=40 03
40<speed<=60 04
60<speed 05

The input and output variables for the chart are namely-Speed & gr. Also, a slider swith has been attached in the input which enables the variation of speed while the simulation is going on. The varaiation of gears as the speed is varied from 0 to 100km/hr is shown in the file "gear_speed" attached below.
