Week 4 - 2D Meshing for Sheet Metal

Week- 4

2D Meshing for Sheet Metal

Objective:
To mesh the components of Cross Car Beam to qualify the given quality criteria
Assemble the CCB by using appropriate connections.

Quality criteria:

Quality Criteria Value

Target/Average length 5

Minimum Length 3

Maximum Length 7

Aspect 3

Warpage 15

Skewness 45

Jacobian 0.7

Minimum Quad Angle 45

Maximum Quad Angle 135

Minimum Tria Angle 30

Maximum Tria Angle 12

Tria Percentage 15

Procedure :

Geometry clean up

Opened the model in Ansa, checked the connections. Did the geometry clean up using " fix " in geometry clean up tool.Took the meausrements.

Midsurface

Extracted the midsurface using, offset, skin and middle multi option, Used iNot command to get the parts separately to get the midsurface accurately. Made the holes even, cut the unwamted cons which would be a problem for meshing quality.

Meshing

Meshed the CCB assembly part by part separately, to get goof meshflow. Used Fix quality, Reconstruct and Smooth options and the split, swap and join features to fix quality. reduced trias as much as possible. Got good meshflow.

Set PID

Set thickness, by assigning pid's.

Result:
The geometry was cleaned and mid-surface was generated.
The mid-surfaces were meshed and thickness was applied.
The CCB model was assembled using seam weld and bolt connections on the FE.
