Week - 4 - 2D meshing for Plastic components

Aim:For the given Plastic Bottle Cap model, check for the geometrical errors and take the mid surface by suitable mid surfacing techniques. PID and Thickness assignment has to be done for all the mid surfaces. Mesh the same with given element Quality criteria. (Refer the table Below for the Quality criteria)

PROCESS:

  • The given STP file is downloaded and is opened and saved in ANSA Pre-processer
  • The Parental parts are checked with given factors, and are fixed as per requirement
  • In the hemming region(in the Outer panel’s bend region), Elements will fail for the Min length error due to the very small surface to capture the curved surface. (Refer below images to understand the issue)
  • In order to solve this Min length error, One can toggle (suppress) the top and bottom double cons at the fillet region of a mid surface (Toggled cons will be represented as Orange colour lines). This is called ‘defeaturing’ the midsurface. (Refer the below image to understand the same)
  • As per requirement the Mid surface of each part is extracted by the following options like mid-surface or Offset.
  • Thus after getting the Mid surface, the surfaces of each part are checked once again.
  • The geometry clean up is done using available commands and processes like suppressing unwanted lines, removal /adding of hotpoints, having cuts to have a perfect mesh is done
  • The Mesh properties are added as per given
  • The length is added as '1'

  • As per given Quality Criteria is added .

  • Mid Surface is made

  • Finally the meshing is applied on the mid surfaces formed.

  • The quality is checked and where ever it fails its rectified as per requirement.

  • Later the thickness is applied to the meshed surface by PID.
