Challenge

Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

Objective

  • Generating mesh, deploying 1D element and defining the cross-section for the same with property assigning.

Procedure

  • Geometry was imported to CAD using @FILE>IMPORT>GEOMETRY>IMPORT and switched to ‘Shaded Geometry and Surface Edges’. Now for mid-surfacing @GEOMETRY>MIDSURFACE>(SURFS, CLOSED SOLID)>EXTRACT. At ENTITY>COMPONENTS>RIGHT CLICK>CREATE NEW>RENAME as needed. Delete the solids by @DELETE>Select SOLIDS>Select>DELETE ENTITY. Then delete the first two entities by there @Select>DELETE>YES. Now Map/Update the new created ‘Mid-surface’ to ‘Renamed’, using @TOOLS>ORGANISE>SURFS>Select DEST COMPONENT and make sure about the ‘Current Component’>CLICK>MOVE. Now delete the older component @ENTITY.
  • Now at the ‘Entity’ phase, create a material @Left Click>CREATE>MATERIAL>Rename and update as needed in bottom section. Assign properties for the same @Left Click>CREATE>PROPERTY>Rename and update as needed in bottom section. Now assign the same properties and material to respective components.
  • Now for meshing @2D>AUTOMESH>SURF>DISPLAYED/ALL>Give ‘Element Size’ and ‘Mesh Type’>MESH. Before meshing, always apply for ‘Washer Split’ around holes.
  • Now RBE2 and RBE3 were deployed using @1D>RIGIDS/RBE3>NODES>BY PATH>Select Nodes>Mark the Constrains>CREATE.
  • Mass was applied to node points using @1D>MASSES>ELEMENT TYPE>CMASS1>Select Node>Create.
  • For the creation of Cross-Sections, used @1D>HYPERBEAM>STANDARD SECTION>STANDARD SECTION TYPE>Select anyone>CREATE and at new page, edit or ‘Create New’ as needed.
  • 1D elements were created between nodes using @1D>BARS/RODS>NODE A>NODE B>ORIENTATION>PROPERTY>ELEMENT TYPES>CREATE. Created new properties for 1D elements at ‘Entities’. After selection each, assign required ‘Cross-Section’.
  • Now go to respective for updating, i.e @1D>BARS/RODS>UPDATE>ELEMENTS>Select Element>ORIENTATION>PROPERTY>ELEMENT TYPE>UPDATE.
  • Switched to ‘1D Detailed Element Representation’ and Springs were applied between nodes with element type ‘HMSPRING’.
