Challenge

Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

Objective:- Mesh the Given component with the Size of 5 Units. Create 1D elements on the following component with given cross-section and DOF

a. Rod element:- Translational DOF should be Constrained with RBE2 link

Cross-Section: BOX- Dimension a= 12 mm

dimension b=10 mm

Thickness t= 0.75 mm

b. Beam element:- All DOF should be constrained with RBE3 link

Cross-Section: I Section- Dimension a= 8 mm

Dimension b= 10 mm

Dimension c= 8.5 mm

Thickness t1= 0.75 mm

Thickness t2= .6 mm

Thickness t3= .6 mm

c. Bar element:- Constrain only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link

Cross-section: X section- Dimension DIM1= 5 mm

Thickness DIM2= 1.2 mm

Dimension DIM3= 10 mm

Thickness DIM4= 1.2mm

d. & e. Apply the mass of magnitude 10 with the RBE2 link

f. Join the two components with Spring elements.

Procedure:-

1. Import the .hm file in hyperworks.

2. Assign the material as steel.

3. Create the mid-surface for the component.

4. Create the component in dashboard as "Bracket-1 & Bracket-2".

5. Create the property as "Bracket-1 & Bracket-2' and assign them to the following components.

6. Assigne the different mid-surface in both the brackets.

7. Delete the solids and hide the surface.

8. Mesh the the mid-surface using "2-D<automesh", and keep the element size as 5 units and type as "mixed".

7. Now in hyperbeam veiw create 3 sections as follows: Box, I-section, Cross as per the given dimensions as follows.

8. Create the property for all the 3 connections as: Rod, Beam, Cross.

9. Now link the hole "a" by RBE2 connection and join them using "CROD" and add the cross section as "Box" from the hyperbeam section. And unmark the dof4,5,6.

10. Now link the hole "b" by RBE3 connection and join them using the "CBEAM" and add the cross section as "I-section" from the hyperbeam section. And keep all the dof marked.

11. Now join the hole "c" by RBE3 connection and join them using the "CBAR" element and add the Cross section as "Cross" from the hyperbeam view. And keep the X,Y translational and rotational dof marked.

12. Now switch on the "1-D detailed element representation" to switch on the veiw.

13. Connect d & f link with RBE2vand apply "1-D<masses" at the centre node of magnitude 10.

14. Connect both the corners at bothe ends using "1-D<spring" element.
