Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

Aim: Meshing the given component & creating 1D elements.

Procedure:

1. Imported model & Then used Geometry option & choose Midsurface to extract mid surface of geometry. Two part we can see in geometry so one by one extracted mid & also renamed its Components which are in Model browser in Tab bar.

2. Then I used Model - Componets to hide parent geometry & makes only Mid surfaces visible.

3. Now I did Washer split to all the holes by using Geometry - Quick edit tool by giving offest value

4. Then in Main menu page - 2D selected & used Automesh tool to mesh geometry with 5 unit.

Then using right & left mouse clicks adjusted mesh quality of washer;

5. Then created properties ( two properties for 2 parts) & material (steel). & also assigned materials to properties & that properties to components ( Bracket 1 & Bracket 2 ). shown in below images

6. Then moved to 1 D elemet cration and before it created RBE2 & RBE3 elements as per given criteria. 1st created RBE2 by using 1D - Rigids tool & Then RBE3.

7. Then created Bar, Rod & Beam as per given data & for that used 1D - Bars ( for bar & beam- only changed element type ) & Rods

8. Created 3 new properties for bar, rod & beam in Tab bar. & then moved to create & give cross sectional areas to respective elements as per given data for that used 1D- HyperBeam - Standard section - Optistruct( Standard section library);

crated same for remaining & then assigned properties to all & also assigned Beam sections.

Then using Bars & Rods in 1D assigned/updated created cross section properties .

9. At d & e portions created RBE2 element & gave Mass usind 1D- Masses with magnitude 10 units.

10. At last crated spring element at f ends;

Final product

Learning outcomes:

1. Learned how to assign properties

2. How to create mesh

3. How to create 1 D elements with cross section & assigning properties

etc.
