Challenge

Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

objective:-

1. Creating a mesh of element size 5 units.

2. Creating 1D elements as mentioned below:-

  • At A, Creating rod element(Box section) constrained with translational DOF with RBE2 link
  • At B, creating Beam element(I section) constrained with all DOF with RBE3 link
  • At C, creating Bar element(X section) constrained with X and Y DOF with RBE3 link
  • At D & E, Creating Mass of mag 10 with RBE2 link
  • At F, joining two component with spring element.

Procedure:-

1. Importing the model of (.hm) file in hypermesh.

2. Creating mid surface using skin offset and aut extraction.

3. Deleting solid compenent and wireframe and creating property with name of Bracket top and bracket bottom. Assigning properties to both surfaces.

4. Using Washer split to get even mesh around circular holes.

5. In 2d panel, using automesh, creating mesh of element size 5 units.

6. Making no of nodes equal at inner and outer nodes of elements within washer area.

7. From 1d, Creating rigid elements at A, D, E, and RBE3 at B and C. Also creating spring element at corners.

8. Creating required profiles using hyperview and are able to find all the profiles in optistruct and hyperrmesh.

9. Creating Property for all the profiles and giving card names and assigning material and sections to respective elements.

10. Updating the properties from bars and rod tab of 1d element panel, giving the direction to them.

11. Turning on 1d detailed element representation, we are able to see 3d graphics of our elements and hence we are able to create 1d elements.

Conclusion:-

We have created mid surface, mesh of unit size 5, and created different 1d elements i.e. RBE2, RBE3, bar, rod, beam and spring and given mass at a particular point.

Learning outcome:-

Now we are able to create different types of 1d elements, generating mesh and mid surface.
