Week 3 Verification of Weld Joints
Verification of weld joints
Objective:
To carry out a static structural analysis to find out Equivalent stress, Equivalent strain and Directional deformation on Weldment bracket (which has 2 plates and 2 ribs) with 3 different weld materials. Refer below for weld material.
Case 1 – Stainless steel for both weld materials, plates & ribs
Case 2 – Aluminum alloy for weld materials, Stainless steel for plates & ribs
Case 1 – Bronze for weld materials, Stainless steel for plates & Copper for ribs
CASE 1:
Here Stainless steel for both weld materials, plates & ribs has been taken for static structural analysis and refer below for more details.
1. Contact of Plates & ribs
Both plates and ribs are connected to each other by frictional contact and weld beads are connected by bonded contact with plates and ribs.
Connection between Big plate and small plate
Connection between Big plate and Rib1
Connection between Big plate and Rib2
Connection between Small plate and Rib1
Connection between Small plate and Rib2
2. Mesh.
Refer below for Mesh details. 7mm mesh size is selected for both big & small plates. Default mesh size is kept for ribs & weld beads.
3. Fixed support & Load acting on part.
Weldment bracket is fixed by 5 holes. Highlighted in lavender color in above picture.
15000N force has been applied on rectangle slot in small plate. Highlighted in red color in above picture.
4. Results
4.1 Von-mises stress
4.2 Equivalent strain
4.3 Directional deformation
CASE 2:
Here Aluminum alloy for weld materials, Stainless steel for plates & ribs has been taken for static structural analysis and refer below for more details.
1. Contact of Plates & ribs
No change, contacts for plates, ribs and weld beads are same as case 1.
2. Mesh.
No change, mesh details are also same as case 1.
3. Fixed support & Load acting on part.
No change, fixed support and load are applied as same as case 1.
4. Results
4.1 Von-mises stress
4.2 Equivalent strain
4.3 Directional deformation
CASE 3:
Here Bronze for weld materials, Stainless steel for plates & Copper for ribs has been taken for static structural analysis and refer below for more details.
1. Contact of Plates & ribs
No change, contacts for plates, ribs and weld beads are same as case 1.
2. Mesh.
No change, mesh details are also same as case 1.
3. Fixed support & Load acting on part.
No change, fixed support and load are applied as same as case 1.
4. Results
4.1 Von-mises stress
4.2 Equivalent strain
4.3 Directional deformation
