Week 2 Bevel Gear Challenge
Static Structural analysis of Bevel gear
Objective:
To carry out a static structural analysis to find out Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain and Total deformation on 2 Bevel gears with 3 different sizes mesh. Refer below for Mesh dimensions.
Case 1 – Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain and Total deformation for 4 mm mesh size
Case 2 – Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain and Total deformation for 5 mm mesh size
Case 1 – Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain and Total deformation for 6 mm mesh size
CASE 1:
Here Bevel gears with 4mm mesh size has been taken for static structural analysis and refer below for more details.
1. Contact of 2 bodies (Bevel gears)
Both gears teeth’s are selected to ensure the connections between 2 gears because Bevel gear teeth only going to engage with each other.
2. Rotation of Bevel gears.
Refer below for Rotation of 2 bevel gears with respect to each other centers. One gear will rotate clockwise and another will rotate Anti-clockwise direction.
Joint load on big gear in moment
Joint load on small gear in rotation
3. Properties of material.
Bevel gears are assigned with Structural steel material and the properties of the material are shown below.
4. Mesh details.
Refer below for Mesh sizing, Method, Quality, Elements & Nodes.
5. Results
5.1 Von-mises stress
5.2 Total Deformation
5.3 Equivalent Elastic strain
CASE 2:
Here Bevel gears with 5mm mesh size has been taken for static structural analysis and refer below for more details.
