Week 1 Spur Gear Challenge

Static Structural analysis of Spur gear

Objective:

To carry out a static structural analysis to find out Equivalent stress, Total deformation and Stress intensity on 2 spur gears with 3 different materials. Refer below for material details.

Case 1 – Spur gears with Cast iron (Ductile) material.

Case 2 – Spur gears with Cast steel material.

Case 1 – Spur gears with Cast Bronze material.

CASE 1:

Here Spur gears with Cast iron (Ductile) material has been taken for static structural analysis and refer below for more details.

1. Contact of 2 bodies (Spur gears)

Both gears teeth’s sides are selected to ensure the connections between 2 gears because side of the spur gear teeth only going to engage with each other.

2. Rotation of spur gears.

Refer below for Rotation of 2 spur gears with respect to each other centers. One gear will rotate clockwise and another will rotate Anti-clockwise direction.

Load given on gear teeth.

3. Properties of material.

Spur gears are assigned with Cast iron (Ductile) material and the properties of the material are shown below.

4. Mesh details.

Refer below for Mesh sizing, Method, Quality, Elements & Nodes.

5. Results

5.1 Von-mises stress

5.2 Deformation

5.3 Stress Intensity

CASE 2:

Here Spur gears with Cast steel material has been taken for static structural analysis and refer below for more details.

CASE 3:

Here Spur gears with Cast Bronze material has been taken for static structural analysis and refer below for more details.
