Challenge

Week 3 Sheet metal Bending challenge

Question :

Case 1:Aluminium Alloy 1199( mentioned in the course video), Copper Alloy NL, and Magnesium Alloy NL. Find out the Equivalent stress, Equivalent elastic strain, and Total Deformation in the Y direction and compare the results for the three materials.

Case 2:With the material as Aluminium Alloy, change the friction coefficient to 0.19 and run the analysis as mentioned in Case 1. Compare the results with that in case 1.

Case 3: Refine the mesh on the plate such that it doesn't cross the academic limit. With Aluminium alloy as material, run the analysis as in Case 1 and compare the results.

Submit the challenge as you would do in a proper project report with all relevant details such as settings, mesh size, images, and tables included to provide your findings. Also, give an explanation as to which property/ properties of the materials affect the outcome

Aim :

To the slove the given model and exact for all three load cases.

Software requried :

Ansys workbench 2021 R2

Procedure :

Import the geometry from the skill lync portal and open it in the mechcanial window .

Understand the model and it working as per the real time working condtions so we can bring it as per that .

We have been given three material types to do analysis with to get a comparion on which material the load is least

Assign the alumunium alloy NL 1199 for the first case given for the plate keep the punch and the die as structural steel common all cases .

Establish the correct contact conditions for the model as given

The displacement for the punch is as given

For the die

For the sheet metal

Boundry conditions

DIE - All DOF fixed

PUNCH - Linear movement in negative Y axsis

PLATE - fixed in Z axsis

Now run the simulation and exact the results

Case 1

Case 2

Case 3

Result :

Thus the given model is simulated and results are taken from the software .
