Challenge

Week 3-Meshing of Hood Challenge

SCOPE: FE Modeling of Car Hood.

TASK-1

Here’s the given CAD Model to perform FE Modeling.

PROCEDURE:

  • Set the profile to Optistruct.
  • Check the given CAD whether it's packed i.e The CAD has Surface A,B&C.
  • By placing it in Mixed or Topo Mode we can identify the model is completely closed or not.
  • If there's any line of geometry is in red color then it's consider as open edge or free edge. It must be delt by fixing the surface by using delete command, surface filler option to create a new surface over.

  • By using midsurface option under Geom panel in hypermesh we can create middle surface of the given component.
  • After generating mid surface check the mid surface by placing it in Topo Mode or for more accuracy we can keep it in wireframe mode to check for free edges.

  • Fix all the missing surfaces by using delete surf, filler surf, point replace etc.

  • Set the above quality criteria and element size before starting meshing.
  • Take as much splits using quick edit tool, short cut is F11.

  • Press F12 to start meshing on mid surface by keeping in mixed option.
  • After the completion of mesh check for connectivity and free edges of the mesh by shift + F3.
  • Review by selecting the free edge component and reviewing it.

  • After reviewing the free edges make sure that the trias doesn't exceed 5%.
  • Create a property and assign 0.75 unit thickness to the component.

Put the component in transparency mode as shown above.

  • Render the mesh and check if it fits the given geom.

FEARURE TREE:

RESULTS:

The Mid Surface is extracted and checked for the free edge lines.

The mesh was generated using mixed mode with element size as 5 and kept the trias below 5%.

The Mesh has no free edges and the passed quality criteria.
