Week 3: Flow over a backward facing step

We have the base setup ready, run the case for three different base mesh sizes

  • dx = dy = dz =2e-3 m
  • dx = dy = dz =1.5e-3 m
  • dx = dy = dz =1.0e-3 m (If this is too much for your PC, use 1.2e-3 m)

OBJECTIVE:

Simulate Flow of fluid over a throttle body with completely open valve in converge studio and post process the results.

PROCESS:

• A pre-made CAD design of a throttle body is imported into Converge Studio.

• The design is checked for errors, by diagnosis and made sure that all open edges are patched and ready for an error free geometry.

• The boundaries were flagged accordingly.

• The case setup is carried out as below:

Boundary conditions:

Inlet pressure-1.5 bar at 300k and outlet 1 bar at 300k. This pressure drop acts as the potential for flow.

Simulation is set to run for 15000 cycle with minimum time step as le-9 and max as 1.

Mesh size of 2e-4 was generated with fixed embedding near the throttle valve of factor 3..

Remaning process is as same as the back stepfacing type
