Week - 3 Drop test Challenge

WEEK 3 - DROP TEST CHALLENGE

AIM:

To perform drop test challenge with a cellphone and plate mimicking ground using Ls-dyna.

GIVEN:

Green - Cellphone

Yellow - Ground

PROCEDURE:

Step 1: Import the model File_Open_Ls-Dyna Keyword file and select the file (Drop_Test_onlymesh.k)

Model has given with only mesh and we have to preprocess it to get the result

FOR PREPROCESSING OF A MODEL

BOUNDARY:

First I applied boundary spc(single point constraint) to the Ground as a fixed so that it cannot move during the fall of cell phone on it

MAT:

Then we have to create a material card for both cell phone and ground in keyword manager

Mat 024 - piecewise linear palstic has been used for cell phone

Mat 020 - Rigid has been used for Ground

INITIAL:

Then in the initial tab I applied a velocity to cell phone as 100 mm/s in the negative direction so that the drop is taken under consideration.

SECTION:

I defined a Solid section for both the cellphone and ground

PART:

After defining the sections,Go to part tab in keyword manager assinging material and section Id's to the part.

For Cellphone:

For Ground:

CONTACT:

Then we have to create a contact between cellphone and ground by going to Keyword manager and select Contact Tab and double click the Surface to Surface Option and choose the master and slave, Here Ground is the master and Cellphone is the Slave.

CONTROL TERMINATION:

Control Termination was defined with the analysis run time of 0.1milli seconds.

DATABASE:

After that Database card has been created so we can get the output in D3plot and also Ascii.

BINARY D3PLOT OUTPUT:

ASCII OPTION:

After finish creating Card we have to run the Keyword file in LS RUN

D3plot has to be open in LS prepost and check the Result we want

RESULT EXTRACTED:

CONCLUSION:

LS-Dyna is a tool to predict failure due to unknown stresses in a product, This method has shown above will reduce the manufacturing costs and time by eliminating actual prototype testing.
