Week - 3 Drop test Challenge

PHONE DROP TEST

Objective: To analyze the stress – strain behavior of the phone when it is dropped on the floor.

Procedure:

Step 1: Import the model onto the LS-DYNA pre-post graphical user interface (GUI) which is in .k format. The model is imported onto the GUI as a keyword file.

Step 2: The solid elements of the floor is deleted for analysis purposes. Only the shell elements are retained and referred to as floor.

Step 3: The properties are given names respectively to the components.

Step 4: The material (MAT) and section cards are created and assigned to the components through their respective property cards.

Step 5: The boundary conditions for the components are constrained respectively based on the type of simulation carried out.

Step 6: The Velocity for the given phone model is assigned as -5, as the phone is being simulated as it has been dropped.

Step 6: The type of contact between the phone and floor is given as “Automatic surface to surface” and the Slave and Master components are assigned respectively. The floor is assigned as master and phone is assigned as slave because the floor is constrained in all directions it is considered to be the Master.

Step 7: The control termination time is given.

Step 8: The necessary type database options are enabled and given 0.1 ms value.

Step 9: The keyword file is checked for errors, if any errors or warnings are shown it is directly resolved in that specific input data.

Step 10: The file is saved in. k format and is made to run in the solver.

Step 11: The D3 plot file which is created and saved automatically is opened in the pre-post to check the animation of the phone drop on to the floor and to see the visual and internal changes of Stress and Strain behavior of the phone model. The data is recorded in the form of graph.

Conclusion: The given Phone model was simulated against a floor representation in LS-DYNA.As per the given input the keyword file was successfully executed and the resultant output was appropriate.
