Project 2

Floor Panel Meshing

Objective : To mesh the floor panel component to the given quality criteria.

The target element size = 5

Procedure :

Step 1 : Import the model onto the hypermesh graphic window.

Step 2 : Extract the mid surface of the model.

Reason for extraction of mid surface is if we mesh the entire component in 3D the number of nodes and elements will increase , which in turn would increase the storage space and processing power to analyze the component. To avoid this mid surface is created where we represent the entire 3D model by mid surface and create shell elements.

Since the model is a bit complicated , the mid surface is extracted manually. From the surface edit panel. Keeping the offset value at 0.390 ( because the model thickness varies on each part the surface and the common value was taken).

Step 3 : After the extraction of the mid surface the model was checked for any topology errors and have undergone through topology cleanup.

Step 4 : Start the meshing on the mid surface after analyzing the model thoroughly. For this model the model started to mesh from the middle part.

Keeping the target element size as 5.

Step 5 : Set the quality criteria for the model.

Step 6 : The model meshed completely and checked for any quality errors in the mesh. To have no errors and mesh to consist low trias possible the mesh re meshed at some areas. The functions of the quality index from the 2D panel is also used to edit the errors in the mesh and also to get neat flow in the mesh.

Step 7 : The mesh smoothened using smooth function from the 2D panel (sometimes the mesh may get distorted after smoothening we need use element optimize and element cleanup to negate such errors).

Step 7 : The mid surface of the is given a property based on its thickness value that is 0.390.

Conclusion : The model is meshed completely with no errors and low trias concentration as possible.
