Week 3 Challenge : CFD meshing on Turbocharger
AIM:
For the given model, to check for the geometrical errors to make appropriate volumes, create and assign PIDs. To perform surface mesh with the given target lengths as per PIDs.
- Blade stage-1 = 1 mm
- Blade stage-2 = 1 mm
- Impeller = 2 mm
- Shaft rotor = 1 mm
- Turbo casing = 5 mm
- Compressor casing = 5 mm
- Inlet casing cover = 5 mm
Then to perform Volumetric mesh for the required volumes.
DESCRIPTION:
Load geometry model in ANSA.

Run geometry check and find overlap surface, single cons and triple cons. Then do rectification one by one. Remove extended surfaces, fill all the gaps and remove overlap surfaces.
Geometry after TOPO clean up

Select different PID regions and named it as shown in below

Once again check geometry and make sure there is no single cons, overlap surfaces or unnecessary triple cons.
Then go for surface meshes with below dimensions
- Blade stage-1 = 1 mm
- Blade stage-2 = 1 mm
- Impeller = 2 mm
- Shaft rotor = 1 mm
- Turbo casing = 5 mm
- Compressor casing = 5 mm
- Inlet casing cover = 5 mm
After completing surface mesh go for olumetric mesh and run auto detect volume and delete shell volumes which are not used in CFD. And remesh it with Tetra CFD type.

Cut section of volumetric mesh

CONCLUSION:
Thus, the geometrical errors like single, double and triple con are checked and PIDs are assigned accordingly to the requirement and the surface is generated for with the given target lengths. Then volumetric meshing is performed for the volumed required successfully.
Note : Turbocharger.ansa file size is too large.
