Week 3 Challenge : CFD meshing on Turbocharger

Aim:

  • The goal here is to refine the geometry and perform surface and volume mesh.

initial model with errors

from below images we can se that sum surface are missing

here we can observe that so many single cons are present this means some surface are missing, we need to create a mssing surface.

to create this surface we need to create hotpoints at the edges

by creating the hotpoints at edges we need to create a surafce step by step until the sufrace closes

all the surfaces are created

after clearing all the single cons we gave doen geometry checking we have found only triple cons that is acceptable

to do volumetric meshing we need to close the opened surfaces

all the opend surfaces are closed

sfter closing all the openings we need to mesh the turbo charger body to required mesh length

meshing :-

1)compressor casing is meshed for length 5mm

mesh lenth is set to 3mm to 7mm as min to max and target length is given as 5mm.

2) blade stage 1:- 1mm target length

3) blade stage 2 :- 1mm target

4) impeller :- 2mm target length

5) shaft rotor :- 1mm target length

6) turbo chager :- target length 5mm

inlet casing cover :- target length 5mm

after doing the mesh to the geometry of requird length, wew need to see for unmeshed area, if any face is missing it needs to ne meshed.

volume meshing the geometry

after remeshing the unmeshed suface with tetra rapid mesh. below geometry gives the extrected mesh volume genetarted by volumetric meshing

after the volumetic the geometry use the " not " to see the tria and quad element in the geometry
