Challenge

CFD meshing on Turbocharger using ANSA.

Aim: CFD meshing on Turbocharger

Objective: To learn volumetric meshing on critical type of geometry.

Procedure: Go for topo clean up. solving triple & single cons by deleting and creating new surfaces.

1) Delete the overlap surfaces from geometry by using universal delete option.

2) Delete the extra portion which is present on model. And create new surface if existing surface was deleted.

3) Project the hot points wherever it is necessary and create new surfaces. sometimes we need to project hot points because of complex shape of the model.

4) Now check whether any single cons is present or not by using wire frame mode. If it is present remove it. by isolating area of interest.

5) If any surface is penetrating with the other surface then use Intersect from Faces. Intersect is used to intersect the faces. once we done intersect, Delete the excess part.

6) Use Release option from cons and then use Topo from faces in order to insure that there is triple cons or overlap surfaces is available.

7) If we unable to fill the faces at complex area of model create hot points by using new tool i.e. parameters from Hot point module. create multiple hot points of 0.5 mm if necessary. and fill the faces by checking proper alterenative. and complete the geometry.

8) check whether any single cons is present or not by geometry check. if present remove it.

9) Now check for triple cons from geometry checks. go to triple cons and check whether it is necessary or not. Triple cons is not always an error, sometimes triple cons may be just warning. so go there and examine that the reason is valid or not for triple cons.

10) Use project from cons to get the projection in shaft. use fine option from auxiliaries to get finish cuts on model.

11) Make sure no single cons will not present in model. Triple cons may be present if wherever it is necessary.

12) Now go for PID creation. assign different names to PIDs as stated.

13) Now go for surface meshing. Assign Mesh parameters, Quality criteria, lenghts ( perimeter and macros). Also this model have diiferent different mesh lenght respective of different parts.

14) If two edges are in contact with each other and having different mesh lenghts then some mesh is removed from particular surface. then aging assign mesh length on vanished area present on model and while assigning the lenghts allow the ANSA software to choose range of mesh lenght accordingly. It will show range of particular mesh lengths. This is why because it selects common circumference of two different parts.

15) In order to isolate region where there is change in mesh length was present use cut options from Macros with reconstruct option enable.

16) Before going to vol.meshing our model must be already surface meshed.

17) Now go to the vol.mesh deck. go to volumes then auto detect option then select whole database then ANSA will auto detects and shows us different volumes list which is to be meshed.

18) Now Delete the thickness componants of parent geometry. and the remaining voids or volumes from which fluid will flow is supposed to be meshed.

19) Go to the voids or volumes which is to be meshed. Do right click and go to the Remesh option click there. Now in remesh it will ask about volume type. For 3D volume select Tetra CFD option. In this tetra shows element type and CFD shows its application of particular elements. click ok and it will starts volumetric meshing. As volumetric meshing is performed our system may slow down. This is because large number of tetra element is creating. Do the same vol mesh for remaining parts.

Result: Now our volumetric mesh is done on Turbocharger.

Conclusion: volumetric meshing requires -Surface meshing and this requires - Topo clean up. So in volumetric meshing we learnt detail about different ANSA software tools.
