Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1.   For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

First Load,  EV_defaults_in from the drop-down menu and change parallel_defaults_in to EV_defaults_in from the vehicle input window.

  • Now changing the cargo mass to 500 kg
  • Change in the total mass of the vehicle can be seen.
  • clicking on the continue button after that a new window simulation parameter will pop up.

  • In the simulation parameter window change drive cycle to CYC_FTP by selecting the drop-down menu.
  • Below that will see #of cycles from here we can set our drive cycle.

after pressing the run button, the simulation will start and it will show results in a new window.

Distance traveled by vehicle in one drive cycle 11km. as we need total distance covered to be 45 km and this drive cycle can only complete 11km. so we need more than one drive cycle to complete 45 km. so we can use various parameters to find out how many drive cycle

above we increase 2 drive cycle

Distance traveled by vehicle in one drive cycle 22km. For that when we increase the of no. drive cycle we reached 45 km after 5 drive cycle

No. of drive cycle            distance covered in km

  1.                              11km
  2.                              22km
  3.                              33km
  4.                              44km
  5.                              55km

the minimum distance traveled by car is 11km with drive cycle CYC_FTP-1 whereas the maximum distance traveling by car is 44km which consumes 100% of battery in 5 drive cycles.

  1. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

The current battery capacity is kept at 25 we need to increase the battery pack capacity so that the vehicle can run more than 45 km

so, we will increase the battery capacity from 25 to 45

by increasing battery capacity we can see that the range has been increased which is more than we need.

  1. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file Compare your results in a table and conclude.

Select the Prius_JPN_default_in file from the load file option to load the Prius model

hit continue and select the grade option to open the grade test option in this we need to change the option which will include both fuel and energy storage system, hence we will select all systems to enable and in basics parameters the speed of the vehicle can be controlled we need to change the speed from 3-35 mph with an incremental of 5mph to check the gradability at a different speed.

after running the Prius model with the different speeds we can check the gradability percentage, we need to take values at different speeds and tabulate information.

from the above graph, we can see that the gradability decreases with an increase in speed the maximum gradability during 5mph and the lowest during 35 mph
