Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
EV_21 WEEK-3
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations
To use ADVISOR tool for simulation
ADVISOR was created in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. MATLAB provides an easy-to-use matrix-based
programming environment for performing calculations
while Simulink can be used to represent complex systems
graphically using block diagrams.
ADVISOR uses three primary graphical user interface
(GUI) screens to guide the user through the simulation
process. With the GUIs, the user can iteratively evaluate the
impacts of vehicle parameters and drive cycle requirements
on the vehicle performance, fuel economy, and emissions.
The GUIs facilitate interaction with the raw input and output
data that is present in the MATLAB workspace
How to start the advisor tool :
launch matlab and first set the default location folder to the advisor
now in the command window of the matlab type advisor and press enter
a new window will open up and then set metric for unit and start advisor it will launch in new window
ADVISOR tool have 3 windows :
vehicle input window
simulation parameter window
results window
first loading the EV_defaults_in file from the drop down menu and changing parallel default into Ev _ default_in from vehicle input window
now changing the cargo mass to 500kg change in the total mass of the vehicle can be seen
clicking on the continue button after that a new window simulation parameter will pop up
in simulation parametre window change the drive ycle to CYC_FTP by selecting the down menu
below that we see # of cycles from here we can set our drive cycle
after pressing the run button the simulation will start and it will show the results in new window

the distance traveled bythe vehicle in 1 drive cycle is 17.8 km

the distance traveled by the vehicle in 2nd drive cycle is 24km
and like the same way we check the 3rd and 4th drive cycles
the minimum distance travelled by the vehicle is 17.8km with drive cycle FTP where as maximum distance travelled by vehicle is 41.5 km
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation
In vehicle input window we will change the capacity of battery from energy storage which will be open in 1st # of mod_v nom describes the battery capacity so we will change the module number of batteries from the first box and we will see the voltages and weight of the battery now click the continue to furher processing
a new simulation parameter window will open here we will change the drive cycles 2 or 3 and run the simulation
after completion of simulation we will see the result window where we observe the change in distance of vehicle travel
we will repeat the simulation by changing the battery module and the drive cycle
2 DRIVE CYCLES :-
1. Energy storage system with module 26 and 2 drive cycles the distance is 24 km
2. energy storage system with 28 module and 2 drive cycles the distance is 24 km

3 DIVE CYCLES :-
1. energy storage system with 26 module and 3 drive cycles the distance is 36 km
2. energy storage system with 28 module and 3 drive cycles the distance is 36 km

4 DRIVE CYCLES:-
1.energy storage system with 26 module and 4 drive cycles and the distance is 42.9 km
2. energy storage system with 28 module and 4 drive cycles and the distance is 46.5 km

for battery 28 module and 4 drive cycles distance travelled is 46.5 km
while changing the batery module in drive cycle 2 and 3 we get constant distance travel
changing battery module in drive cycle 4 we get changes in distance traveled by vhicle
to cover the 45km distance a 345 volts battery with 28 modules is required
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
In advisor tool vehicle input window select prius_jpn_default _in continue to the next window
simulation parameter window will open select the gradeability test and click on grade option box a new dialogue box will open
in grade option box we can change the speed or duration with respect to our simulation for yhis simulatio change speed one time or duration another time and also click on the constant road grade
click ok and run the simulation and result window will open showing differnt results depend upon the input data
Results for the duration of 10 sec :-
1. speed 20m/ph or 32.2 km/ph The gradeability is 19.8%
2. speed 30 miles/hr or 48.3 km/ph The gradeability is 14.7%
3. speed 40 m/ph or 64.4 km/ph The gradeability is 11.7%

Results for duration of 30 sec :-
1. speed 20 m/ph or 32.2 km/ph The gradeability is 22.9%
2. speed 30 m/ph or 48.3 km/ph The gradeability is 17.7%
3. speed 40 m/ph or 64.4 km/ph The gradeability is 14.6%

When the vehicle speed increses there is decrese in gradeability for both 10 sec and 20 sec duration
