Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Answer 1:
Theory : From the above question, we have to find for EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, wheather the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle or not. In this regards , the above roblem is done in various steps.
Step 1 : Open matlab
step 2: Type advisor in command window

step 3: select metric option and then select 'start'.

step 4 : select ev in drivetrain config option.

step 5: Run the EV_defaults_in with the mentioned cargo weight 136 kg.

step 6: Select the cyc_FTP in drive cycle option and no. of cycle remain 1 and 'Run'.

Step 7 : It is observed that in 1 drive cycle the vehicle obtained 17.8 km distance while SOC is not zero.

Step 8: Changing no. of cycle from 1 to 3 and select 'Run' .

Step 9: It is observed that in 3 drive cycle the vehicle obtained 48.2 km distance while SOC is zero. Which means the vehicle will not go any further.

Step 10: Changing the cargo weight from 136 kg to 500 kg and continue.

Step 11: Select the cyc_FTP in drive cycle option and no. of cycle remain 1 and 'Run'.

Step 12: It is observed that in 1 drive cycle the vehicle obtained 17.8 km distance while SOC is not zero. Here also observed that the distance covered by the vehicle is 17.8 km in 1 drive cycle which is as same as the preivious condition.

Step 13: Changing no. of cycle from 1 to 3 and select 'Run' .

Step 14: It is observed that in 3 drive cycle the vehicle obtained 41.4 km distance while SOC is zero (marked by Red arrow) which means the vehicle will not go any further.

Step 15: Observation: It is observed that while cargo mass is 136 kg (default), in 3 drive cycle the vehicle covered 48.2 km when SOC reached Zero. When the cargo mass is 500 kg (as per the question), in 3 drive cycle the vehicle covered 41.4 km when SOC reached Zero.
So, for 500 kg of cargo mass, the vehicle will not go 45 km for the default battery bank.
Answer 2 :
Theroy: From the above case, by changing the battery capacity and to find in which capacity of battery bank the car will cover minimum 45 km distance.
Step 1: cargo mass changed to 500 kg and initial nominal voltage of battery bank is 308 V for 25 nos. of batteries (default).
Step 2: Drive cycle set to 3 and click on Run.
Step 3 : It is observed that the car reached 41.4 km for 500 kg of cargo mass while SOC reached zero.
Step 4: After adding 3 nos. of batteries to the default (25+3=28 nos.), the nominal voltage is changed to 345 V from 308 V and then click on Run.
Step 5: It is observed that the car reached 46.3 km for 500 kg of cargo mass while SOC reached zero.

Step 6 : Observation: It is observed that after adding approx. 37 V (3 nos. of batteries) the vehicle with 500 cargo mass can reach 45 km (upto 46.3 km).
Answer 3 :
Objective: Commencing gradibility test for different assume speed for PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in model and observe.
- Condition 1 : 20 mph
- Condition 2 : 30 mph
- Condition 3 : 40 mph
- Condition 4 : 50 mph
- Condition 5 : 60 mph
Step 1: Load PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in model first. Then click Run with the default value . Check gradibility test and click gradibility option, check all system enabled and change the speed value as per the above conditions. There after click ok.
Step 2 : gardibility test for the condition 1 (20 mph)
Step 3 : gardibility test for the condition 2 (30 mph)
Step 4 : gardibility test for the condition 3 (40 mph)
Step 5 : gardibility test for the condition 4 (50 mph)
Step 6 : gardibility test for the condition 5 (60 mph)
Observation: All the gradibility values are taken from advisior tool after simulation of required conditions.
| Conditions | Speed | Percentage of gradibility |
| Condition 1 | 20 mph | 19.8% |
| Condition 2 | 30 mph | 14.7% |
| Condition 3 | 40 mph | 11.7% |
| Condition 4 | 50 mph | 9.7% |
| Condition 5 | 60 mph | 8.1% |
