Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Aim :
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

In the figure above, the EV_defaults_in file has been updated with the following changes (mass =500 kgs), and run for cycle_FTP (No of cycles = 3) so that we can determine the SOC and range of the vehicle much better.
In the case above, from the first two graphs, we can understand that the SOC is 0% before the completion of the third cycle and the total distance is 41.4 kms.
This goes to show that for this particular module settings and a mass of 500 kgs for the FTP cycle, the vehicle cannot cover upto 45 kms.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
As from the earlier simulation, we can see that, the vehicle travels only 41.4 kms.
Therefore , increasing the battery storage or by supplying more capacity of the battery, we can achieve higher range and thus fulfill our condition to achieve a minimum range of 45 kms for the FTP cycle.
For doing this we shall first change the battery modules from the preset 25 value to 29 value( which is after doing some trial and error).

Thus after setting the value of battery module to 29, we run the simulation for the FTP cycle for 3 no. of times keeping mass = 500 kgs and all the other parameters same.
In this figure, we can see that the range of the vehicle increased due to the increase in battery modules and achieved a range of 47.7 kms. Also, as a proof of the same, we can confirm from the second plot ( SOC) that the battery reached 0% after having completing the 3rd cycle in contrast to the earlier question.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
Following are some combinations of Speed and duration and the gradeability thus achieved.

From the data, we can understand that as the gradeability has been preset at 6% , the values of gradeability come out to be a little vague than for the values that probably fall into the range of the vehicles speed vs time characteristics. From the cases above, 65 mph in 30 s and 65 mph in 25 s
gives the gradeability to be about 6.2 to 6.5%. Therefore, not much accurate information can be taken out from the aforementioned cases.
