Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Que 1)- For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

Answer-

ADVISOR

ADVISOR is a MATLAB/Simulink based simulation program for rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of light and heavy-duty vehicles with conventional (gasoline/diesel), hybrid-electric, full-electric, and fuel cell powertrains.

To open Advisor in MATLAB type advisor in command window and press Enter, a new window appears on the screen which is Advisor tool, select unit as metric and hit Start button. And thats how we open this tool.

Input - EV_defaults_in file & cargo mass is 500 kg

To Observe - can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle?

In above fig., to enter our input vehicle and input data we edit the Load file tab and Cargo mass as marked in red colored box.

after that on continueing and change the drive cycle to FTP hit run buton.

After run we observe following result

As we observe in above fig. the Total distance covered is 17.8 km which is far less than 45 km.

Conclusion-

By using given data as Cargo mass 500 kg and drive cycle as FTP we can not get desired output as 45 km.

Que 2)- In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Answer- Now we try to increase battery capacity to check it goes to 45 km or not

For that we change the energy storage as marked in above fig.

and check the results

No. of cycle = 1

Again we get same distance as 17.8 km.

Now we try to increase no. of cycle = 4, and observe,

We get 41.4 km as distance but it's still less than 45 km.

Now we try to increace no. of modules of battery from 25 to 30 and no. of cycle to 5 and obseve the result,

Here we get result as we required finally. The distance is 49.1 km.

Conclusion-

From above trial and error method, we get desired output as 45 km, for we have to increase our battery and it's modele no. and as well no. of cycle also, and result is we get but before that every time battery drains out and thats why it's not reacing to 45 km distance.

Que 3)- Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file & Compare your results in table and conclude.

Answer-

Input- PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

To Observe- Gradeability test & Compare your results in table and conclude.

Here We actually test that for given slope or gradeability, at perticular velocity of vehicle and time, the vehicle is able to cilmb on not. For that we performe some test and their results and observation are given below,

Model - PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in

Case 1 - Default state- Gradeability-6%, Speed-55mph,Duration-10sec.

At Grade=6%, speed=55mph % Duration=10sec, The vehicle is able to climb.

Case 2 - Gradeability-6%, Speed-70mph,Duration-10sec.

At Grade=6%, speed=70mph % Duration=10sec, The vehicle is able to climb.

Case3 - Gradeability-6%, Speed-70mph,Duration-50sec.

At Grade=6%, speed=70mph % Duration=50sec, The vehicle is able to climb.

Case 4 - Gradeability-6%, Speed-100mph,Duration-50sec.

At Grade=6%, speed=100mph % Duration=50sec, The vehicle is able to climb.

Case 5 - Gradeability-6%, Speed-100mph,Duration-5sec.

At Grade=6%, speed=100mph % Duration=5sec, The vehicle Fails to climb.

Conclusion-

Case Gradeability Speed (mph) Duration (sec) Pass/Fail
1 6% 55 10 Pass
2 6% 70 10 Pass
3 6% 70 50 Pass
4 6% 100 50 Pass
5 6% 100 5 Fail

Pass - Able to climb on given gradeability.

Fail - Not able to to climb on given gradeability.

Case fails only when for given grade % speed is very high and duration is less as in case 5.
