Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

ADVISOR tool

AIM : understanding the ADVISOR tool

Objective:

  • For EV default in file, change the cargo mass to 500 kg and observe the FTP cycle if vehicle attends the 45kmph speed or not.
  • Change the battery parameters in EV_default_files and observe the result.
  • Perform the gradability test for PRIUS_jpn_default_files and plot the result.

Objective 1: For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

The EV Default vehicle is a pure EV (Electric Vehicle) where it’s completely driven by battery as power source.

The cargo mass is changed to 500 kg from the default value of 136 kg,

The drive cycle chosen is FTP (Federal Test Procedure) and the maximum distance travelled is 17.7 km,

So, In order to achieve 45 km of distance the FTP Drive Cycle to be repeated so i gradually increase the cycle

here we see a warning meesage at 41.4 km itself, so we can see battery dont have enough capacity to complete the distance.

CONCLUSION :-

From the simulation we can understand that the vehicle didn’t run for distance of 45km and there is an error popping out that the required distance exceeded the EV range. So, in order to achieve the required distance we need to increase the battery capacity.

Objective 2 : Changing the battery capacity and repeating the above simulation :-

The battery powe module(kw) is being increased to give more power for further distance of the vehicle from 25 modules to 35 modules to achive the required range.

no. of cycle is 4 to achive the distance.

After increasing in the battery capacity the vehicle is able to run for the required distance, but it will also add the extra battery weight to the vehice.

CONCLUSION :-

  • From this simulation we can conclude that the required distance (45 Km) is being achieved by increasing the battery modules for extra power required to run the vehicle.
  • From this we can conclude that cargo mass and battery capacity is directly propotional to each other if the battery capacity is less as compared to the cargo weight the battery dicharges fast and distance covered is less as if the battery capacity is desirable to the cargo weight the distance acheived is more.

OBJECTIVE : Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file compare your results in table and conclude.

The Toyota Prius is Hybrid vehicle which has both IC (Internal Combustion and Motor) drive systems,

VEHICLE PARAMETRS:

The gradeability test is being performed by increasing the speed of the vehicle for constant duration of 30 sec,

For 50 mph,

which is 80.5km/h so, gradebility percentage is 2%

For 40mph

>>>>

For 30 mph,

>>>>>

For 20mph,

>>>>

CONCLUSION :

We see that as the velocity decreases the gradeability increases and decreases on increasing the velocity. This is because the slope of the road has to be travelled by the vehicle and if the slope increases the vehicle requires more power to run the terrain. In that case the vehicle must run in low gear (ie. 1st or 2nd gear) so that more power is obtained and the speed will be less and vice versa for high gears.
