Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

question-1:- For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

answer:- first open ADVISOR tool, it will look like this

select in metric, then click on start, we will see deefault page

here we we have to select load file is EV_defaults_in, the default cargo mass value is 136kg.

so change cargo mass to 500kg.

calculated mass showing 1508 kg, then click on continue to go to simulation parameters page.

here we can see the default drive cycle is cyc_UDDS, so we have to select cyc_FTP, no. of cycle is 1.

then click on run to get result.

so as we change no. of cycle & click on run we will get result & observe how much the vehicle can cover distance with cargo weight 500 kg.

1) for no. of cycle = 1, vehicle will cover distance 17.8km. which u can see above also.

2)for no. of cycle = 2, vehicle will cover distance 35.5km

3)for no. of cycle = 3, vehicle will cover distance 41.4km

4)for no. of cycle = 4, vehicle will cover distance 41.4km

4)for no. of cycle = 12, vehicle will cover distance 41.4km

so we have observe that load file EV_defaults_in with cargo weight 500kg & duty cycle cyc_FTP cannot travelled distance 45 km, the max. distance is 41.4km.

question-2:- In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

answer:-

here for load file EV_defaults_in with cargo weight 500kg, has energy storage type is pb with default capacity is 25 module. calculatrd mass is 1508kg. if we change battery capacity to 35 module. the calculated mass is 1618kg.

then click in continue to go simulation parameter page, change drive cycle to cyc_FTP, no.of cycle =1, then click on run to get result.

1)when no. of cycle =1, then vehicle will cover distance=17.8km as shown in above also.

2)when no. of cycle =2, then vehicle will cover distance=35.5km

3)when no. of cycle =3, then vehicle will cover distance=53.2km

4)when no. of cycle =4, then vehicle will cover distance=56.5km

here we can see that with battery capacity 35 module, duty cycle FTP, cargo load 500kg with no. of cycle is 4, vehicle will cover distnace 56.5 km, which is more distance than with battery capacity 25 module( distance cover 41.4km) as discribe in previous objective. so we have observe that with increase in battery capacity vehicle cover distance will also increase.

question-3:- Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file Compare your results in table and conclude.

answer:- open ADVISOR tool select metric option, click on start. select load file PRIUS_jpn_defaults_in

the above has all the default values, click on continue to go to simulation parameter page.

default drive cycle is cyc_UDDS, as we will do gradeability test click on it, then click on grade option, we will see grate test advanced option as shown below.

now select all system enabled in enable/disable systems.

we will change its speed every time accordingly we will check its gradeability, let the time duration be 10sec fixed for this test. speed given 10 mph , then click on ok. as shown below then we will go to simulation parameter page their we have to click on run to get result.

result:- 1) we can see acceleration test that on 10mph which is 16.1 kmph gradeability is 30.3%

2) speed=30mph (48.3 kmph), gradeability= 14.7%

3) speed=50mph (80.5 kmph), gradeability= 9.7%

4)speed=55mph (88.5 kmph), gradeability= 8.9%

5)speed=65mph (104.6 kmph), gradeability= 7.2%

6)speed=70mph (112.7 kmph), gradeability= 6.3%

comparision value of speed and gradeability%

from this we can conclude that as we increase the speed the gradeability% will decrease and vice versa. they are inversely proportional to each other.
