Objective:

  • For EV default in file, change the cargo mass to 500 kg and observe the FTP cycle if vehicle attends the 45kmph speed or not.
  • Change the battery parameters in EV_default_files and observe the result.
  • Perform the gradability test for PRIUS_jpn_default_files and plot the result.

Objective 1: For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

In this plot we can observe is that how the torque changes as per the motor speed maximum motor torque acheived is 0.92Nm.

In above table we can observe that we have changed the cargo weight to 500kg.

From above table we can observe the various parameters of the vehicle such as about motor and its specifications and followed by the transmission, energy storage capacity, etc with their specifications.

  • In FTP,if no of cycles is 1 the maximum distance covered by vehicle with 500 kg cargo load is 17.77km in 2477 sec of time and maximum speed acheived by the vehicle is 91.25km.
  • Now for abserving the distance covered by the vehicle of 45 km with cargo load of 500kg we have to increase the number of FTP cycles.

  • We runned the 3 no of FTP cycles the maximum distnace acheived by the vehicle with 500 kg cargo load was 41.4km in 5500sec time as shown in below figure.

  • As we can observe that vehicle couldn't acheive the 45 km of distance with cargo load of 500kg.

Objective 2: Changing the battery capacity for EV_default_in and running the simulation.

  • Here we changed the no of modules of battery from 25 to 26 the i.e 26kw of capacity of battery the peak effeciency of battery is also increased with 10% followed by the mass of the battery.
  • Overall Gross weight of the vehicle is also increased to 1618kg.

  • After increasing the battery capacity and no of cycles is 3 for cargo weight of 500kg the distance covered by the vehicle is now 49.7km in 7200sec of time.
  • From this we canm conclude that cargo mass and battery capacity is directly propotional to each other if the battery capacity is less as compared to the cargo weight the battery dicharges fast and distance covered is less as if the battery capacity is desirable to the cargo weight the distance acheived is more.

Objective 3: Perform gradability test for PRIUS_jpn_default and plot the results.

VEHICLE PARAMETRS:

Calculating Grade values for 20 sec of time at different kmph speed:

1-vehicle speed =20 miles per hour for 20sec duration

Output:

Gradability at 20 miles/hr or 32.2kmph :22.9%

2-Vehicle speed=25 miles/hr for 20 sec duration.

Output:

Gradability at 25miles/hr or 40.2kmph : 19.7%

3-Vehicle speed=30kmph for 20 sec duration.

Output:

Gradability at 30miles/hr or 48.3kmph=17.7%

4-Vehicle speed=35miles/hr for 20sec duration.

Output:

Gradability at 35miles/hr or 56.3kmph: 16%

5-Vehicle speed =40 miles/hr for 20 sec duration.

Output:

Gradability at 40miles/hr or 64.4kmph : 14.6%

Sr No Vehicle speed(mph) Vehicle speed(kmph) Grade(percentage)
1 20 32.2 22.9
2 25 40.2 19.7
3 30 48.3 17.7
4 35 56.3 16
5 40 64.4 14.6

Result:From above table we can observe that as vehicle speed increases gradability decreases.

Conclusion:

  • For cargo weight of 500 kg and for no of 3 FTP cycles vehicle couldn't acheived 45 km of distance.
  • After changing to battery capacity to 26 KW the vehicle with 500 kg of cargo weight can achieve 45km of distance with suffiecient charge left for covering more distance.
  • As vehicle speed increases gradability decreases.
