Challenge

Week 3 Challenge

Aim and Introduction:-

  • The aim of this challenge is to calculate all types of dead loads and live load coming on to it and to analyse the effect of the loading on the composite steel girder in staad Pro.
  • So first of all the dead load is to be calculated from the given section and the live load is to be analyzed by diffrent type of class of vehicles as per the code considering class A and 70 R vehicle with considering parapet wall on it.
  • The girders are considered as steel beam composite girder.
  • The DL is calculated as per meter run loading for girders and for the deck slab the DL & LL has been calculated as per square meter area.
  • Then the model will be created in Staad pro. and the reactions due to the loading is being analyzed by considering the girder and deckslab as given.

Data Given :-

Width of Deck Slab =26 m

Span of Bridge = 25 m

Pier Size (Circular)=2.3 m

Pier Height = 10.0 m

Deck Slab Thickness = 0.240 m

Unit Wt. of Soil = 18 KN/m3

Unit Wt. of Concrete = 25 KN/m3

Slf Wt. of Deck Slab:

= 0.24 m x 25 KN/m3

= 6 KN/m2

Slf Wt. of parapet

(i)Base Part -

Dimension = 0.35m x 0.35m

Area = 0.1225 sqm

(ii) Shaft part -

Dimension = 0.865m x 0.20m

Area = 0.173 sqm

Total Area of the Parapet

= 0.1225 + 0.173 = 0.2955 sqm

Slf wt. Parapet = 0.2955 x 25 = 4.45 KN/m

Considering the wt. of the parapet wall on both the side girder

Total Dead Load on Side Girder = 21.25+8.3125

= 29.57 KN/m

= 30 KN/m

ANALYSIS IN STAAD Pro.

The model is created in STAAD Pro. for analysis of the Steel composite girder and the type of loads coming on to it is considered during the analysis.

The model has been created by the given dimension of the structure. Plate for deck slab and beam for girder has been modeled.

Properties has been assigned as per defined.

  • The pier cap size assumed as 1m x 1m.
  • Deck slab thick ness assumed as 0.240m.
  • For the steel girder ISMB 400 has been considered.

The 3D Render view of the structure.

  • The foundation is plate mat.

  • The subgrade modulus is considered as 18 ton KN/m2/m for the soil.

The Vehicle load as Class A loading and 70R loading has been assigned.

DL with member load of the parapet wall has been assigned and the plate load as calculated has been assigned to the plates of the deck slab.

The result has been analysed. The max and min forces is being calculated by it.

Pier end reactions.

The Plate ( Deck Slab) stresses as per the loading given to the structure.
