Week 3 Challenge

Question: - For the I Girder bridge to be designed for the following data, the center-to-center distance of piers along the width of the bridge deck is 26m, Span of the bridge is 25m, Pier height is 10m, Apply the IRS railway loads and model in Staad pro and perform the structural analysis

Solution

1.1 AIM: Analysis and Design for I-Girder Bridge having 25 m span with 27.325 m deck, Pier height is 10 m for IRS Load.

1.2 INTRODUCTION: A Simply supported Bridge having 25 m span of box I-Girder with deck slab of 27.325 m width.

1.3 Analysis and Design Methodology: -

Analysis and design (The evaluation of Bending Moment, Shear Forces and deflection) through the STAAD pro.

1.4 STANDARD and References

(i) IRC Codes

(ii) IS 456-2000

(iii) IS 875-1 for Dead Load

(iii) IS 875-3 2015 for Wind loads

(iv) IS 1893 for EQ load

(v) All relevant codes of IS and IRS

  1. INPUT DATA
  2. The Span of the Bridge 25 m (I-Girder)
  3. Width of the Bridge 27.325 m
  4. C/C Distance of the pier =12.925 m
  5. Center to center distance of the Girder= 3.6 m
  6. Assume thickness of deck slab 225 mm
  7. Assume cross girder 500mmX1500mm
  8. Main Girder data (assumed data)

(i) Total Girder height/depth = 1800 mm

(ii) Thickness of Top flange = 300 mm

(iii) Thickness of bottom flange= 400 mm

(iv) Thickness of web = 300 mm.

(v) Width of top flange = 1200 mm

(vi) Width of bottom flange = 600 mm

  1. Grade of Concrete (fck) = 40 N/mm2
  2. Yield Strength of reinforcement =500 N/mm2
  3. Unit Weight of Concrete =25 KN/m3
  4. Unit Weight of Soil = 19 KN/M3
  5. Loading data(4 no of trains)

(i) Electric train Load as per IRS Bridge Rule

(ii) Load Generations = (Length of train+ Length of bridge)/increment

= (10+25)/1= 35 Nos
