Week 3 - 2D meshing for Sheet metal

Objective

For the given Hood model, Take the mid surface after checking the geometrical errors and mesh the mid surface with the given element Quality criteria. (Refer to the table below for the Quality criteria)

IGES file has a sheet in it. it needs to be meshed according to the rules. provide a thickness to the sheet.

Procedure with required images

geometry clean up was done first. hot points and cons section were used.

after this, topology was done to join all the adjacent surfaces and topology was done to achieve this.

length of the shells were decided first. then best shell was created. care was taken to avoid triangles and go for quadrilateral meshing for most of the part. but triangles cannot be completely avoided. triangular meshes were kept remote from the boundary edges.

proper meshing was achieved like this.

meshing options like free best mesh, remesh, reconstruct, reshape, smooth were used.

Results and Final model image

the following is done-

Generating Midsurface and geometry clean up on the given component

Generating mesh on the given component with low tria concentration and proper mesh flow

model passes all the given quality parameters and submit the completed model

Optistruct mesh generated in radioss format

output CAD saved in /iges format
