Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

           Week – 3 Challenge Report

Aim: 2D Meshing of sheet metal hood part.                  Procedure:                                                                                                  Geometry downloaded from the challenges option.

Import of geometry from downloaded folder.

Cons resolution of geometry carried out in terms of perimeter and macros as

Checked for connectivity with the option using topo.

Orientation done for the preferred surface.

For detecting any errors in geometry checks in geometry is executed to 100% If any faults or errors shown it is fixed automatically and manually as well.

The thickness of geometry is determined by using measure tool.

If varying thickness is found in geometry different PID are detected and carry out procedure with each PID.

Extraction of midsurface is carried out without deleting parent geometry and PID are named with respect to child geometry.

Quality criteria are assigned and mesh parameters are updated for meshing.

Geometry cleanup is done to remove unwanted hotpoints, construction lines, defeaturing of cons are done that are failing for minimum length. Proper cut is made to obtain good mesh flow.

Perimeter and macros lengths are updated to the average of maximum and minimum length in the quality parameters, geometry is checked to confirm about any errors, topo is given for continuity between surfaces.

Best option is used for creating mesh from mesh generation table.

Checking any quality failure with Hidden mode for unmeshed, off, quality issues, opposite trias, improper mesh flow, etc.

All quality failures are fixed by using option like reconstruction for rearranging mesh pattern, smooth and fix quality for rearranging nodes and elements to solve the quality failures.

After clearing all quality errors and failures in geometry the file is saved.

Conclusion:

Every step in 2D meshing has its own role that cannot be skipped or replaced.

Procedure need to follow to avoid unwanted problems and wastage of time in trials and errors.

One should have thorough knowledge of all the modules, tools, options, commands, keywords, etc. to avoid mistakes.

Attention to detail and keen observation is needed while working on geometry.

Practicing and learning different ways, helps to gain fluency and speed in performing work.
